QUALITY URETHANE & INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS
Plus Plastics in East Tamaki Auckland was a new venture for the three friends (now partners) who created it, but working with Industrial Plastics and Polyurethane was their life and business for many years before this big step.
With their combined experience of 30 years in the Polyurethane and Plastics Industries, Steve Sihamu, Graham Walters and Willson Silver decided back in 2001 to risk it all and start their own factory.
This was done because they sensed a huge future for the amazing material we call Polyurethane and were frustrated that a lack of innovation, narrow applications and archaic manufacturing methods were holding it back.
First they attacked the manufacturing side by designing a user friendly production line that stores chemicals in a unique fashion allowing an orderly progression on rails through mixing, colouring, de gassing etc until the journey ends at the ovens.
Jokingly nick named the "breakfast bar" this double-sided production line has proved tremendously successful and is the heart of the clean, modern, and busy workshop.
Interestingly while Polyurethane was the main focus when setting up the factory the guys have been gratified to discover that their expertise in Industrial Plastics is still in hot demand as well.
They enjoy this diversity of product lines and have a working principle of always looking forward knowing that in this industry you cant stand still.
If you are a customer and bring in a problem Plus Plastics hasn't encounted before, the initial response will be "can do"
Bring in a drawing a plan or just an idea and expect a friendly, one on one response.
If necessary they will supply drawings or moulds through to finished product and every effort will be made to ensure the most cost effective solution for your situation.
Steve Sihamu, the Production Manager, and a Fitter / Turner by trade, is a warm cheerful fellow who is very well known in the Polyurethane industry. His ability to handle six different projects at once is just amazing. Innovative mould design and his uncanny ability to predict possible problems is his specialist subject.
We think Steve was a juggler in another life.
Graham Walters, the Sales Manager, and a marine fitter by trade, chases new business, quotes on work offered and is always ready and eager to give customers the benefit of his many years of experience in trouble shooting and solutions to problems.
Graham is quiet and solid and he hates poor quality work. Customers know their problem is being taken seriously when dealing with him.
Willson Silver is the Marketing Manager and a toolmaker by trade who acts as a sort of "conductor of the band". A cheery, optimistic character by nature Willson bounces around doing paper work, helping out customers, working on production and generally providing the quality system overview that keeps the work on track.
